Onondaga County is a county located in New York State. The county name comes from the name of the Native American people who first inhabited the area -- one of the original Five Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy. The self-governing Onondaga Nation has a reservation of about 10 square miles south of the city of Syracuse. The city of Syracuse, NY serves as the county seat.
